JUST A NAP COPYRIGHT 2013 RZEVANS
The old man lay on his cot, weak and barely alert. He had been waiting, taking just enough nourishment to keep him going. He had to see the smiles, just one more time. Old Kit, his basset, announced their arrival. He heard the bustle as his friend, Buster, let them in the back door. Buster ws saying, "Yes, he's waiting for all of you; we have him on a cot in the den."
This time the little boy and girl didn't rush in like they usually did. He knew that their parents had warned them that Grandpa wasn't feeling very good."Hello Poppa," said his son, "we came as fast as we could. The traffic was terrible."
The two little ones timidly approached the cot, one on each side. "Do you hurt Grandpa?" the little girl asked.
"No, it quit hurting sweetie pie; come closer, I want two big hugs."
"Are you going to die, Grandpa?" asked the little boy.
"Can you two keep a secret?" the old man asked.
Both children nodded their heads, and he pulled them closer whispering softly. They both smiled.
At the graveside service the mother handed each child a rose, and noticed both children smiling at each other. "What did your grandfather tell you?"she asked.
The little girl said, "When we got our flower, we could tell the secret."
"What is the secret?"
The little boy spoke up, "The doctor said Grandpa was going to die, but Grandpa said he was going to fool everybody. He said he was going to take a long, long nap, and Jesus is going to shake his shoulder and wake him up just like we do."
