THE DARK COPYRIGHT 2013 RZEVANS
A slight movement at the corner of the sheet, and the faint light now reflected against a crease that had magically appeaared. As he slowly drew his foot away from the corner, the whispering sound of many tiny appendages strained the silence of the bedroom. He should have looked beneath the bed before lying down, for a bulge was now noticeable beneath the crease. The bulge grew larger, diminished, and then enlarged again, taking on the form of a hand. The heat of the room was intensifying, and his eye suddenly went to the cracked closet door. The door had moved, ever so slightly. There, it opened a little more. As he waited, watching the door, a shiver came over his little body, for the spider was back. It slowly began its crawl from between his shoulders, down his back. You had to lie very still to not be bitten; his eyes went back to the bulge, and when the bulge again grew a little larger, he very gently moved his left foot even closer to his body. Now he became aware of the attic fan humming its vibrating song" don't.....forget to pray, don't.....forget to pray, don't.....forget to pray.
He had forgotten to say his prayers tonight and last night. As he started his second "lay me down to sleep", his mother appeaared at the bedside, "It's hot in here. You're sweating like a little pig, let's open the window a little wider."
